Bethel Early Intervention Centre

(for Pre-School Children with Intellectual Disabilities)

Testimony from a Grateful Parent

I have a daughter Lim Jia Hui who attended the Early Intervention Programme at Bethel E. I. Centre in Puchong from 2002 – 2005.  When she first came to the Centre, her behaviour was like that of a baby, not co-operating and crying and not able to do anything and unable to mix with kids of her own age.

The Centre has since then guided her into mixing with other children, learning to play with them – sometimes  happy and sometimes sad, but nevertheless improving.  She has also learned the values of sharing,  playing with each other and not being selfish.

More than that, it gives us parents pleasure to see her looking and sounding happy.  She, of course, does have her bad days when she refuses to co-operate or be friendly, but that is steadily going down.

She can now repeat the alphabets and easy numbers and even simple words which is of great help to her, now that she goes to regular school.  She can now recognize colours, simple shapes and count.  What surprised me was that she now takes the newspaper and flips the pages, which,  to me as a parent, is a good sign.  It shows her interest in wanting to learn more.

I am grateful that the Centre has taught her to greet teachers and say “Thank you” when necessary, not only to teachers but to her classmates as well, and to share.

I am very impressed with your teaching methods and consider it to be one of the best I have seen so far.  But I think that a few more teachers would be helpful.  The facilities can also be improved a little also.

I wish to thank everyone who has done a great job helping me with my daughter in various ways.  Please keep up te good work.

Thank you.

Er Bee Ling ( mother of Jiah Hui)
